Budget 15" OB choices, goldwood vs Eminence

Im in the hunt for an OB subwoofer on a budget. Right now the two choices that are in front of me are the Eminence 15A and the Goldwood 2158.
Can anyone offer insight into how either or both of these woofers sound in an OB configuration. My build would either be flat baffle or a U frame.

I'm open to other suggestions if ther are any.
I'd like as much bottom end as I can get from the 40watts I have access to.
Would like to stay under $75 per woofer if possible.

I just made a sample baffle for my wife. She decided it was a little too big for our living room (my listening area). I made a few smaller ones to find out what wasn't too big, and it looks like 8" is all I can do. Lol.
So my next post will be recommendations on good value 8" woofers (sealed or vented cabinets). Still using an OB Fullrange.

I tired🙂

As a caution, I own neither of the drivers the OP is looking at.

I own four of the Goldwood 1858 H Frame 18" drivers, and enjoy them thoroughly. They play nice and low and the quad came in a few cents under $300 for the drivers only. I had heavily considered the Alpha 15 drivers as another option. Having heard the Eminence at a fellow DIYer's house, I could have totally been satisfied with the Alpha 15 instead. Due to space constraints realized after the fact, would probably choose them over my Goldwood's if doing it over again.

I really like Eminence drivers and own several bass guitar speakers that have served me well from them. The Goldwood is not a terrible speaker, but I feel more confident with the idea of choosing the Eminence driver for a future build. The Goldwoods are great for me, but have also read reviews from people who did not enjoy them, for whatever reasons YMMV.

A friend just ordered 8 12" GRS woofers and i am interested in hearing what he can put together using all them sub $15 drivers. He may be onto something, we shall see. Hopefully you find something that works for you as well. Good luck.
