I am rebuilding pair of 901 Series IV speakers in my quest to build my late 70's/early 80's vintage stereo (hooking it up to a Pioneer SX-1050), FYI I am a better woodworker than speaker technician. The cabinets are refinished and turned out great and I re foamed drivers which also turned out great with one exception that I need to replace (cone more or less fell apart). On ebay I notice drivers (3 mounting holes) for sale that fit Bose series III, IV, V, VI. I also notice there are slight differences in the rim of the drivers (I assume dependent on the series they originated from).
Question does it make a difference in sound weather the driver was from Bose series III, IV, V, VI speaker when replacing it in a Bose 901 Series IV speaker cabinet?
