I intend to build my first tube amp (RH 84 - Tube Audio ...... RH DESIGN) a few months down the line, after I finish up on some reading of basic electronics and audio fundamentals. (I can solder right now thats it!)
However right now I have a shipment pending that I wish to club the BoM of the RH84 with to reduce shipping charges. For example it can cost $60 and above to ship a $20 item from US to India, ( going by my vague memory 🙄).
Hence I need your help in deciding a BoM for a mono RH84 I intend to make later, right now - before I have even learned how the stuff is supposed to work! 🙁
The RH84 will be paired with a Jordan jxr6 which is a 4ohm driver. I chose this driver because of the simple sealed enclosure 24x20x7cm plan that goes with it - looks feasible to me without reading a single book on speaker construction (with the help of a local experienced DIY'er) . The small size also enables me to make a tabletop or wall-mount kit.
4ohm speaker with a 3 or 4 watt tube? Well I am hoping to ever so slightly overdrive the EL84 tube and replicate the vintage radio sound - somewhat with crunchy aggressive mids. I am not clear if my line of thinking is technically accurate or if the inputs need to be over-driven to achieve this effect in practice. I just made a leap of faith and ordered it anyways
The final goal is to build a tube tuner (regenerative receiver) and try and achieve the same sing song musicality in plain speech that my vintage 70s radio gave. That aside, I prefer mono for daily listening and hope to switch on my stereo only once a week.
Can somebody help me put together a BoM for this kit so I can attempt some cost savings in shipment by ordering early?
One candidate I have looked up is for the output tranny
XSE10-4-8K 10 watt open framed single-ended output transformer, 4 Ohms. (EDCOR - XSE10-4-8K)
Is there a better choice?

I think you would be better served with a 5K primary transformer like the XSE10-4-5K. I am in the process of finishing a stereo amp based on the 6P1P which has sligltly less output power. I listened to the prototype for over 10hrs, and the XSE10-4-5K is a good transformer for the price.
That said, the -3dbB points are not the greatest, and as a result the base is quite lacking. Keep in mind I made my amp and speakers to use as computer monitors and did not strive for high end sound, just something markidly better than typical powered computer speakers.
I think If I were doing it again I'd go for these instead:
EDCOR - GXSE10-4-5K
I may buy a pair just to compare them to the XSEs.
