Bob Brines 167E Speaker with Tweater

Hi,

I am doing Bob Brines' rendition of Martin King's mass loaded transmission line but would like to add a tweeter to help upper response and well - just for looks really.

Its the Fostex 167e driver in a front slot ported cabinet. the link is here:

I will be using a simple capacitor to block out the low end going to the tweeter.

I just want some input on what would be a good matching driver. I will get many of my questions awnsered as I read more but wanted opinions.

1. Should I match efficiency of the main driver? Or make it less efficient to help blend.
2. 12khz and up tweeter or cross it at 12k, 15k etc.
3. And of course position. Centered or off center. I am flushing both of them with front baffle.

As efficient or a little more. With one that is too hot you can just move the XO frequency up instead of bothering with padding (as long as its not WAY too hot).

2. 12khz and up tweeter or cross it at 12k, 15k etc.

Get yourself a handful of values, start way above where the XO should be and add caps in parallel until it is a bit to much, then back off a bit.

With a nominal 8 ohm T and your situation, 1, 0.5, 0.2, 0.1 uF caps should do it.

I like offcentre with mirror imaged pairs. i don't like putting any speaker dead centre on the baffle.

Is there a significant degree of danger in taking an existing design and offsetting the tweeter or woofer slightly?

Where do I find my 94db + sens. shielded tweeter to match up with the 167e?

I am not having much luck finding both - high effiecency and shielded with a good price (sub $30).
