Blackout Cloth Wider Than 54"?????

Hello Everyone,
I hope this thread does not get posted twice, because I posted it once, and it did not go through. So....here is my question. Does anyone know if a place that sells blackout cloth wider than 54". I am trying to construct a screen like the one at www.projectorspecifications.com . The one he built is 132" diagonal, and that requires the material to be ~ 7' (84"). He bought his material from www.Lincraft.com , the only problem with me getting it from there is that it is an Australian company, and I am sure that shipping would be extreamly expensive, I could be wrong though. So...If anyone knows of a place where I would be able to purchase blackout cloth over 54" wide, preferably 84" wide, please post the information needed to contact them.

Thank you,
Steve

I had the same exact problem that you're having with the blackout cloth width.

I could'nt find anything wider than 54" anywhere. I wound up using a white bedsheet. It sucks because the light passes right through it. But the fact that there is a huge space between my screen and the two wall corners I have it propped up against does'nt make it any better.

I'm guessing if I can get the screen smack dab up against a flat wall, the light passing through the sheet will be smashed back into the screen and catch all of the lost brightness that was passing through before. I should be trying that out soon.

How about both?

I use blackout cloth (54" works for me) It's used to sew behind curtains to block out light.

What if you took 2 widths and seamed them like carpeting (carpet seaming tape might work) and stretched them on a frame. Then stretched the bedsheet over it. I used to be a screen printer and there is this cool textile adhesive that sprays on, you could laminate the bedsheet to the blackout cloth with that.

Carpet seam tape that is applied with a carpet iron, you can probably find some information from one of those rent all places or a carpet and flooring store. You wouldn't need the special iron because that is for doing carpeting, in place, on the floor. (I think)

You might find the spray where you buy your blackout cloth??

Hope this helps

btw I don't know anything about carpet, or projector screens...but I did stay at a Holiday Inn last night 😉

if anyone is still interested, go to a crafts store, go to the custom canvas section, have them cut out the canvas fabric according to your measurements, they got width higher than 54". the canvas fabric is matte . Now go to the paint section, pick up a small bucket of Gesso( its a hi-grade primer used only for canvas, blocks all light, its not the one you see in HomeDepot) and a fine wide brush. If you want to get fancy, you can also pickup the silver paint or beaded glass paint, to paint over the Gesso. btw, they also have frames you can assemble or have them assemble.

If you are going to paint over the Gesso, like any other primer, wait couple of days before adding paint.
This is basically how the professional screens are made as I was told.
hope this helps.
