BLACKLISTED music that I like?

We love music
We want "our" music to be free
But in this world of ours, not only in dictator regimes,
but in what we so proud call "the free western world",
music has been banned or regarded as unfit
by leaders of society and by our governements.

:att'n: What is your favourite Banned Song :att'n:

For a starter:

‘The Word,’ listed 64 songs on its February 1st program that BBC Radio have deemed "unsuitable" to play during the Gulf Crisis:

a few samples:
Elton John - Saturday Night's Alright For Fighting
John Lennon - Give Peace A Chance
John Lennon - Imagine
Lulu - Boom Bang A Bang
Bob Marley - Buffalo Soldier
M*A*S*H - Suicide Is Painless
Mike And The Mechanics - Silent Running
Rick Nelson - Fools Rush In
Donny Osmond - Soldier Of Love
Queen - Killer Queen :att'n:

Personal I think that all other music would
seem unfit, compared to these songs,
especially when we have a war at hand. 😀 😀
--------------------------------------------------------

- Eddie Grant - Give Me Hope Joanna -
- this is my personal favourite
It was very bravely written and performed by Eddy Grant,
during the Liberation of South Africa.
This happend after the Liberation of Rhodesia out of Ian Smith rule.
Give Me Hope Joanna
was also among the "banned" by BBC during the War in Kuwait.

The idea to this thread, came by a post made by one of my friends.
Music: Covers that are arguable better then originals.
He suggested a better version of Peace Train - by Cat Stevens
He gave me some hope. That there is a "Slow Train Coming" 'round the bend. Thanks Sheldon 😉

:att'n: What is your favourite Banned Song? :att'n:

I read through the list and it made me laugh. If they ban popular music like that it's no suprise that they don't even think of playing some underground music. Really, no offence, but all those songs are really tame. Banning the Beatles? Please...

yes, it is surely only the top of the iceberg
those who have the REAL power over the music in our radio
never plays anything, unless it fits their purposes (read wallet)
peoples are in the hands of mammon (old myth, the god of money)

luckily private turntables, cassettplayers and cdplayers
are not forbidden yet
so we have our underground
thank god 🙂

Ice T - Cop Killer
I got my black shirt on.
I got my black gloves on.
I got my ski mask on.
This ****'s been too long.

I got my twelve gauge sawed off.
I got my headlights turned off.
I'm 'bout to bust some shots off.
I'm 'bout to dust some cops off.

Cop killer, better you than me.
Cop killer, ****** police brutality!
Cop killer, I know your family's grievin'
(****** 'em)
Cop killer, but tonight we get even.

Banned. Why?
Not the faintest idea.
Maybe some poor deskclerk got offended by reality?
Like an ostrich, emu or struts.
- I'd better bury my head in the sand.

Hmmmm...

With the big conglomerates that own all the radio and TV stations in the US, EVERYTHING is banned except Britney Spears and a few of similar ilk.

The record companies go after file sharing services/programs in an attempt to close the last possible outlet to hear something other than what the radio stations play.

I guess the industry has decided that it's too costly to manage a large catalog, so they try to save some money by forcing the audience to purchase the few "artists" stuff that are most popular with 12 year old girls.

I hope they all go bust.

Bruce Springstein's song "41 shots"

Apparently the story goes that an unarmed naturalized immigrant was shot 41 times by the NYPD while he went for his wallet to show ID. Bruce wrote a song about it. He was asked not to play it for his New York concert, but the Boss played it anyway. I don't think the police were too pleased by this.

That's all I can really think of.

Favourite ?

:att'n: What is your favourite Banned Song? :att'n:
My favourite song is one on J.G. Thirlwell`s album : Hole by Scraping Foetus off the Net, sorry i mean the Wheel. 😀
It`s called : I`ll meet you in Poland Baby.
It contains a sample of speech by a nazi bigboss ( i believe it`s hess. dank ihre führung bla bla bla)
To some listeners it may not be very clear wether he supports that kind of ideoligy or not, but i`am pretty sure he did mean it as a warning to never let it happen again. 🙂

funny but banned?

What about

'walk like an Egyptian"..... sounds pretty offensive to me..

on a more serious note... how many of you have heard :

" tomorrow belongs to me"

a very very beautifull song but misinterpreted because of the Nazi use, also played in Cabaret, the musical.

I had this song played when getting married, going to the altar, everyone was humming or singing with it.....

Blacklisted by SouthAfrican and Brittish governement

And the lyrics may explain
why someone's didn't like it,
During the freedomfight aaginst apartheid in SouthAfrica.
I am proud to be a Swede, we supported the struggle
for equality of all different people living down there.

GIMME HOPE JOANNA

Well Joanna she runs a country
She runs in Durban and Transvaal
She makes a few of her people happy
She don't care about the rest at all.

She got a system they call apartheid
it keeps a brother in subjection
But maybe pressure will make Joanna see
how everybody can live as one

Gimme hope, Joanna, hope Joanna
Gimme hope, Joanna, for the morning comes
Gimme hope, Joanna, hope Joanna
hope before the mourning comes

I hear she makes all the golden money
to buy new weapons in the shape of guns
while every mother in black Soweto
fears the killing of another son

Sneaking across all the neighbours borders
Now and then having a little fun
She doesn't care if the fun games she play
is dangerous for everyone

Gimme hope Joanna...

She's got supporters in high places
who turn their heads to the city sun
Joanna give them the fancy money
to tempt anyone who'd come
She even knows how to swing opinion
in every magazine and the journals
For every bad move that this Joanna makes
they got a good explanation

Gimme hope Joanna...

Even the preacher who works for Jesus
The archbishop who's a peaceful man
together say that the freedom fighters
will overcome the very strong.

I wanna know if you're blind Joanna
if you want to hear the sound of drums
Can't you see that the tide is turning
Don't make we wait till the mourning comes

Gimme hope Joanna...

halo - 😎 doesn't mind the color of his own skin, or anybody else's skin 😎

you got to be kiddin', joking, right? 😀

what's wrong with
Lulu Boom Bang A Bang
or
Lennon's Imagine

Basic message Lennon is trying to tell us is:
Imagine there's no countries
It isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religon too
Imagine all the people
Living life in peace...
..
You may say i'm a dreamer
But i'm not the only one
I hope some day you'll join us
And the world will be as one

Why blacklist this, in a united kingdom or in any other united states of the world
