hey guys,

i got a pair of audio nirvana super 12 that i want to try with BIB. i have been into OB speakers for years but wanted to try a horn for a long time and AN12 seem to fit the bill. would it be feasible to build that on a BIB?

thanks

ivan

modeled the driver on the BIB calculator and this is what i got....any thoughts on this?wow this will be a huge speaker.. will this be possible..how will they sound?

line length-201.083
folded height-100.542
Vb-230.906
Sm-#######
Depth(internal)-240.057
width(interanal)-169.746
zdriver-43.635
a-b-c-120.028

the height of the speaker is about 101" and regular 4x8 sheets will not accommodate them. the 8ft board is only 96" what modifications should be done.. ive read that bib is flexible but onto what extent?

this build will not even be possible...it will be just verrrrrrrrrrrrryyyyyyyyy big.... i never thought of that earlier....

i still want to try the 12" in a bib....what will be the best compromise?pls help

They don't have to be tuned to 1/2 wave Fs. That's just what's usually done. You can tune to whatever frequency you want, providing Vb remains the same. Not a good idea to go below 0.707Fs though.

If you can't cope with the size, then it's unsuitable. QED. It might even be worse than you think: the AN specs. are regarded as being of questionable accuracy at best, often exhibiting a substantially higher Q than advertised, so you will probably require substantially more cabinet volume than the sheet specifies from the factory parameters.

thanks for the input guys...ill just stick with the recommended 2.8mk2 cabs then....

scottmoose, is the 2.8mk2 cabs form commonsense suitable for the super 12?ive read that they are mediocre in design for the super 12, do you have something that will be better?

ive built the 2.8mk2 ambience cabs with AN super 8's a few years back and they were really good but i eventually moved to open baffles.

thanks

FWIW, assuming it's published Vs measured specs are off ~the same amount as the Cast 12's which dictates a classical ideal alignment of ~236 L tuned to Fs, the 5.6 is the smallest cab tuned to Fs I'd consider with the 13.6 being my recommendation, especially if driven by a high output impedance, if for no other reason than it has enough Vb to allow a reasonable amount of tuning flexibility, though I'd convert it to a MLTL to get the driver up higher.
