Howdy all!
I'm building a (REALLY AWESOME) boombox. Just to give you a quick idea of what I'm dealing with:
4" B4N midbass drivers in ported enclosures on either side of the boombox
TN25 tweeters
Boombox is constructed with 1x4 pine on the edges with plywood front and back.
I need to (want to?) have the back of the boombox be removable to make it easier to service things when my homestyle electronics break in some exciting way.
My plan right now is to glue a felt gasket to the back of the frame and then screw the rear plywood on through that. Does that sound reasonable?
I don't think the enclosure needs to be super hermetically sealed (esp since it's ported).
Is felt the best choice? Is there something better/cheaper/easier?
Should I even bother with the felt? This is a funky home-made boombox, not a master-class hifi. Will it really matter if it's not sealed perfectly?
Thanks!

When I was young and poor I used old bicycle tires and made gaskets from that and screws every 3 inches. Now I am old and not so poor and for the last project I used 12mm 1/2 inch thick door gaskets and screws every 3 inches. The door gaskets slowly compresed till they were paper thin. I had to go round and round the back of the cabinet. I used incense sticks to check for air leaks.
Go to home depot and get a roll of weather stripping, the foam kind with the peel off adhesive rear. Roll out the length you need, cut it off, peel off the strip and stick it in place.

Neoprene closed cel weather stripping. Usually black. Lots of screws (every 6" or so). Build the box with plywood (lighter and will hold the screws).
