Hello forum,
I`m actually running a Transcendent Sound tube phono preamp via volume pot into an Aleph J clone and am wondering, if the volume attenuation could be done signifincantly better.
I`ve done some research but am unsure if an active solution would be superior to a passive.
Furthermore important is to implement a volume balance, as my room does not reflect equally and one side is a bit louder than the other.
My deck has two tonearms and a transistor phonopre will be bulit (Salas) in some months. The control should ideally handle this too.
Not an easy one. What do you think? Can you please make some suggestions?
Many thanks and best

Hello Renton,
you could try something like this:
Pictures of your diy Pass amplifier
Its an Aleph P Clone with R2R Ladder at output and Lorlin switched resitors for Gain.
With Gain i adjust Balance.
I`m pretty happy with this its still running and in my setup since 8 years now.
8 years 😱 time run`s by if you get older 😀
Or try a muses72320 volume control maybe a Buffer Waynes BA2018 linestage or a UGS6 like preamp ore something else behind the chip.
If software is made for Balance adjustment this should be one of the best Vol. controll chips out there.

A bit fiddly, but two separate volume pots, which automatically gives you a balance control.
What is the output coupling capacitor in the phono stage?

Thanks for your answers.
Today I installed a set of two volume pots 6L6 recommended some weeks ago. All in all they play fantastic and outperform my old Alps pot noticeably.
I think I´m gonna throw an eye on the BA2018 linestage. The question here is: two mono power supplies or not?
