Hi!
I have some PCM63K that need a "home",
-and wondered about if there is any good kits or PCB still out there, and, witch is best?

ahhh! balanced!
Woud be nice...since I have enough chips!
Has anyone made a PCB / clone? (hint - hint).

Hi Arne
You may look at
http://members.chello.nl/~m.heijligers/DAChtml/dactop.htm
It is one of the very few DIY designs that seriously take care of reducing jitter
best regards
Re: This is a good one...
Hi Arne
Yes sur, all parts available by me are listed here

all the best

I have a CD using the standard grade PCM63. I also have a pair of K grade PCM63 lying around, does anybody know if I can (should) stack a K grade on top of the original PCM63? I'll mod it to a passive output stage using the LunDahl 1636, so the additional current is a plus.
I wouldn't stack two different grades, in fact I wouldn't stack at all but that is something personal.
Why not replace the standard grade for a K grade ?

Hi
Ever stacked 2 car batteries ?
I wouldn't stack PCM63.
If you want to improve sound
- follow above adice (replace for K version)
- sell others and buy black gate decoupling caps for analogue supply (+ and - 5V)
- Apply a decent system clock (I sell them, Elso has some circuits, plenty of solutions to avoid over priced commercial clocks)
- reclock the LE inputs of both PCM63's using a D flipflop driven by the system clock (as basically laid out in our DAC)
succes
Yeah, I thought so too, but I would have a hell of a time pulling the Standard grade dac from the board. By the way, I'm talking about a Rotel 971 already fix with a LC clock and AD825 output stage when I got it. It had a F grade Blackgate bypassed with a 0.1uf MIT RTX cap. Let me tell you, bypass a coupling BG, even with a top grade film cap is a no no.
It sounded sharp and unbalance. I replace it with a MCap and bypass with a o.1uf film/foil. Much better. Didn't try the BG NP however, eventhough I have some on hand, didn't feel the urgh to do it.
Any comments on using an output transform as the output stage, thanks.

Why, it is not that hard. Did it several times, it is worth the hassle.
When the risk is too high you can cut the pins and desolder them separately with desoldering braid. You probably will never use the standard grade again anyway. PCM63 gets easily damaged so better calculate they'll die during removal.
