Hey guys, I'm pretty new to the audio world and am seeking a little guidance.
I'm setting up a stereo record player/mp3 player in a suitcase for my girlfriends birthday and not sure about where the best places to put my speakers are.
The suitcase dimensions are:
21" wide, 14" long, 5 1/2" high (or 7 1/2" high if the top is closed.)
It's made out of a plastic/vinly/carboard material. Its decently hard but not wood hard.
Here is a picture of it
I have 2 of these drivers:
Fountek FE83 3" Full Range Driver 8 Ohm
and this woofer:
Philips AD7066W8 6-1/2" Paper Cone Woofer with Rubber Surround
And this is the Amplifier:
TSMAKN® TPA3116 2.1CH 2*50W+100W Amp Kit Amplifier
My main questions are:
1. Where should I put the speakers and sub and how do i position them?
2. Should I use the sub? I heard that sometimes with a record player you don't want vibrations and the sub might be too much. Not sure about that though.
3. Should I reinforce the suitcase with some sort of mdf or wood? Or is it fine with the current material?
4. And is there some sort of port I should use. Or just keep it how it is?

Frankly, I'd forget about putting the "sub" in the suitcase, I think its performance would be compromised by the available space, and it could definitely cause feedback issues.
Why not install an output jack for the .1 channel, and put the bass driver in a separate enclosure - particularly if you could find a matching /coordinating aesthetic case.
Where you planning on installing the drivers on a slab of ply / particle board firing upwards to avoid cutting holes in the exterior perimeter of the luggage?

I think you will need some plywood reinforcement.
For a record player it gets quite complicated.
What deck are you planning to use ?
Clearly the small drivers go left and right on the front.
The bass unit underneath with some feet to lift the bottom.
You will need the bass unit, that amp sends no bass to L+R.

I like the idea of a seperate one for the sub however getting another vintage suitcase is a little out of my budget.
I already have all the electronics working. So the stereo and everything isn't a problem. just not sure about the audio parts.
so should i have both drivers sealed and then use the rest of the space for a vented woofer? With the woofer facing down and then have legs underneath of about half an inch? I made an image to explain it better.
Let me know if that is the ideal setup or if you guys can think of a better solution for what i've got.

An externally hosted image should be here but it was not working when we last tested it.

With all due respect to sreten - I honestly think that putting any woofer in an enclosure this size with the turntable is a recipe for feedback. Even if you put the woofer in a simple MDF box, I think you'd get far better results. And to be honest, the type of old school phonograph players with which some of us grew up in school during the late 50s and 60s, would likely not have had response as low as the Founteks are capable of unaided. For now if you could dial the XO on the 2.1 amp as low as say, 100, the performance might be surprisingly OK without the woofer.

its not just a record player though. this thing has aux, bluetooth, pandora and a record player. so the best audio quality possible is preferred.
according to the specs for the woofer its optimum cabinet size is .75 ft.³ at 46 hz vented. I do have that space available. or should I go with a sealed cabinet and i only need 0.56 ft.³ at 76hz.

A wise revision may be to get a full range 2 channel amp and opt for the aurasound ns3 drivers. Chances are you can get respectably low f3 while sticking to the small footprint of the suitcase. I will dare to say that as a women she may appreciate the clean single suitcase with 2 small speakers approach.

Old school one box record players managed quite well,
and generally they had better bass with the lid shut.
The 6.5" should be used sealed IMO.
I'm well aware feedback may be an issue but it is
not remotely as simple as foregoing all low bass.
The real problem is the record deck, and how to
lock it for transport and free it for use. FWIW
the Dual CS-505 would be a good choice.
