Hi all,
i'm planning to build a pair of cyborgs needles for my daugther, because they are quite small but look (and, hopefully, sound) good. So there are many driver e.g. on Needle Bausatz im Angebot bei SpectrumAudio-Spezialvertrieb für Breitbandlautsprecher und mehr, like Visaton FRS8, Peerless FR35/8, Tangband W3-871B, Monacor SPX-30M, Vifa 9BG119, Tangband W3-315, Dayton RS100, Wavecore FR090WA01, Alpair 6P ranging from 27€ to 150€ for the pair (complete kits without wood). But which one should i choose? I have nice experience with alpair drivers in the frugal horn mk3, so this would be my favourite. Any experiences with these boxes and different drivers out there?
bye,
yai.

The Needles has become a same size fit all thing with some very different drivers being put in it. And without ever having build one, I believe, looking at the measurements isn't as good as newer designs.
Most of the drivers you mention will fit in the TABAQ though. You will need to raise the driver to ear level. Putting it on the wide side and putting the whole thing on the wall would work well.

5 cm wouldn't do much I'd think. For a horizontally aimed driver 85 cm to 1M is the right hight, especially if we are talking a child or teenager who is going to walk around and sit in different places while listening.
A better solution overall (furniture clearance allowing), would be to lean the cab back a few degrees (10 to 30 degrees) to get the HF lobe aimed up and make better use of it, instead of half it being aimed below ears and into the floor.
You could even make the cutout in the panels for wings on the back or bottom, for support and do a kind of FH3-TABAQ fusion or big vent reflex style thingy.

ok, thänx for your advice. i bought the wood for the needles already, but as the TABAQs are even smaller, i started building the TABAQs today. and i will order the tangband drivers tomorrow.
bye,
yai

I don't know if the drivers Bjørn suggests in the original paper is the best any more. TB makes some good drivers, but my feeling is that their low to middle-end range has been superseded some time ago.
Maybe the Vifa 9 BN 119/8 for very good value for the money or the CHR-70 with excellent dispersion and bass (and much more durable now thanks to the new excursion bumper)?

Hi guys,
thänx for your advice! I made a pair of Tabaq, and try to upload a picture. I bought this little Denon amp on the bay for 35 euro-bucks, and the sound is just great for a box of this size. Listening to Victor Wooten's "A Show of Hands" just now. Enough bass allright.
Bye,
yai
