I have a pair of Visaton W200S available to provide some bass for my bedroom system. I had the not too original idea that I could make a pair of subwoofers that would look like stands and I could put my two ways speakers on top (these high pass at 65Hz).
I am looking to achieve 30 to about 80Hz (or a bit more). Keeping the cabinet relatively slim and about 500mm tall is the idea. Sound quality is important.
I saw an interesting 6th order band pass design using these drivers but I am not convinced about them for sound quality above 50Hz. I have 100W to drive them so I would like a design that is reasonably efficient.
I appreciate any suggestions 😀

Sounds like you have Visaton drivers available to you. You'll need
Visaton - Lautsprecher und Zubehör, Loudspeakers and Accessories - download boxsim 1.1, and the lastest driver updates.
You will also need http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/software-tools/158298-boxsim.html , because the software (albeit very good) is all in German.
I'm not sure on the box size you've specified. To get the most out of Visaton woofers, they tend to need bigger boxes (18 litre for the 5" version).
50L (per driver) tuned to 30Hz gets a decent response. However, the efficiency is low at 82dB.
Edit - it sounds like you're following a similar path to me. I ended up with a pair of Dayton DVC woofers in a 42L sealed box, with some serious Linkwitz gain behind them.

thanks for your reply. I have looked at the recommended ported boxes for this driver on the visaton site and I was thinking like you that it lacked efficiency and needed to be large for low FR. Maybe it's the driver!!! 😉
However, I was also wondering what this driver could do in a tapped horn or some other configuration where the cabinet design is doing more work.

Hmmm...
The lack of efficiency will be partially offset by room gain.
I'm not much help on horns I'm afraid - in my opinion, there's some serious voodoo there. I understand (sort of) how full size horns work, but tapped horns are closed books to me.
Looking at the dimensions you've given, I'd say you're looking at a sealed design. I doubt a horn would fit in there. Add some Linkwitz gain, you'll be getting somewhere low. One more thing - watch the maximum excursion - the +/- 10mm is peak to peak. I know this because mine (W130S 8ohm) move around 4mm peak to peak before hitting the stops.

Yes you can and you wont lose overall SPL more than a fraction of a dB in the passband if your fold preserves the minimum requirements of the CSA: s in the bends.
This will make the height of the speaker shorter and as a bonus the folds will LP attenuate the wiggling FR mostly above the targeted passband, more than the stuffing’s does, at least parts of the BW also but depending of the airways section lengths and the of the degree of the bending.
IME, if you fold only ones you need stuffing’s in about half of the line, but about a third is enough if folded more.
So far I’ve made 8 T-TQWT’s and all turned out very well compared to earlier built TLs/TQWT’s/ QWP: s and MLTL: s.
See a couple of small (the cut and paste pictures here below from last year spring and summer) more than once folded T-TQWT’s using buyout and scrap drivers that really sounded IMO very good in their new enclosures.

I hope you don't mind me unearthing this ancient thread, but I'd like to build a T-TQWT sub using the W200S as a driver. Trying to do this in a hurry as I need it for a project, so the simpler the better!
It should be a column speaker with just one fold, and I seem to have found what I'm looking for in this design, which was posted by user bjorno (re-attaching his image here).
Problem is, I can't figure out the diameter of the hole in the front 'lid'. Can anybody help here please?
