Beogram 4004 spinning as soon as plugged in

I had a hiccup with my primary table ( Beogram 8000 ) so I decided to make sure my back up table is working. I had purchased a Beogramm 4004 without a belt but the owner was sure it was 100% functional.

I installed the belt and then plugged it in to the power source. Immediately, the platter started to spin at 33.3 rpm. When I press the "stop" button, I can hear a hum but nothing changes. Pressing the other buttons causes a hum or clicks (depending on which button is pressed) like the table is trying to do something but it keeps spinning. The only buttons that change the operating of the unit is the speed buttons. I can get it to change from 33 to 45 rpm and back but the platter does not stop spinning.

It seems to be stuck in this mode. The tone arm will not move. I have cleaned the switches with deoxit. I have inspected the IC under the switches for bad solder or obvious signs of damage but found nothing.

I have downloaded a service manual. Any ideas where to start? Any obvious common problems?

ok, i think i have found the problem. I have another broken belt. Apparently there are two belts on this turntable. One for the platter, one to move the tone arms. Attached is a picture of the broken belt and the pulleys it is used for.

An externally hosted image should be here but it was not working when we last tested it.

does anyone know the part number for this little belt? i cannot find it in the service manual

updated for future Beogram owners with a similar issue

changed the 2nd small belt and that corrected the problem. The issue was that the arm was not back to its docking position because of the broken belt. As soon as i installed the new belt, the arm moved back 1 cm and it stopped spinning.

Onto the next issue - the arm would not drop. I checked for voltage and had a voltage change at the actuator when I prssed the lower / raise button. That indicated the control electronics are functional. I assumed i had a bad actuator when I cleaned the linkages 5 times and manually stroked the apparatus 50 times.

I used some silicone spray on the linkages one last time and it worked. If you have an older turntable, the linkages seem to seize up a bit and it takes a bit of cleaning and lubing to get things to work. Don't give up too soon before sending it to the shop or recycling.
