After mulling over too many crossover circuits and driver consideration I've decided to go digital active and make those changes prior to analog conversion... etc etc.
What I want to know is what are the differences in these multi channel volume controls?
Selectronic has this one:
http://www.selectronic.fr/upload/produit/pageinternational/6_channel_volume_control.pdf
it uses transistors.
then there is the DACT 6 channel attenuator
http://www.dact.com/html/attenuators.html
which is entirely passive.
if I were planning on feeding say.. a SET 45 amp in one channel and a 300 B on another... or used three little digital amp for the time being..
which volume control would be better?
What do the transistors do for that kind of attenuator?
Provided I have the Behringer output stage modded (reference audio mods, or by kit from selectronic) to bring the default output down a little.. which would be better?
advantages of one type over the other?
Much thanks in advance for your input and education here.

Hi,
For those people interested in my 6-channel level control mod, I have put together a User Guide and a Construction Guide (to be completed). There is also a picture of the replacement flat cables. You can find both in the 6-channel area on my website.

It's a very neat piece of engineering, it's a shame we didn't really get a chance to listen to it properly at the UKdiy fest. If I had a DCX, it would certainly be on my list of upgrades.

I'm working on a kit, I'll have more details end of the month. Also need to finish the construction guide. Please send me an email so I can mail you directly, if you wish.

Multi-channel pots do not track well and you really need a remote control so my answer would be "neither."
Something VCA or relay-selected resistor based with remote and a dB attenuation display would be great. Exactly like Jan's - that's a nice piece of enginering.

I assume you mean the end of the passive article? Yes, lots did! The first one got a PCB IIRC. I must say I myself had to look it up. Knowing most of Jack Vance's characters, this one had escaped me...😉

BTW, finally Ward and I got most of the parts and PCB's for the DCX2496 Active Level Control kit together. Ward will be able to start shipping kits as of 15 September or so.
I have put up the info on how to order the kit on my web site.
Thanks again everyone who expressed interest for prodding me on.
Happy Building, and, the most important part, Happy Listening!
