Becker to Sony CDC interface

I have an idea to build an interface based on the GNUnilink PIC project, that will translate the Sony unilink commands to Becker unilink commands. The protocols are almost the same - so much that the old Becker radios (Monza 2130 etc) work perfectly with a Sony CDC. However later models (Traffic Pro 4720 etc) require Becker's own Silverstone CDC (probably still a Sony mind you).

I have got so far as building the GNUnilink and to get it working on the Becker, then I have read a logic trace of the unilink data and clock lines from the headunit with a view to modifying the GNUnilink code to communicate with a Sony CDC through the PIC.

I wonder if there is anyone else who has any experience with Sony's unilink interface - I can send data (the 'Appoint' command to be specific) to the CDC through the PIC and this is reflected in the logic trace, but I am confused about the initial set up - how to I fool the CDC that the PIC is actually a headunit!?

Any help from someone more experienced would be greatly appreciated.

Kind Regards
Stephen
