Hi all,
I am looking to build a practice bass amp, 30 watts rms, or so. I would like to keep it simple, using op amps for pre and power sections. I enjoy building, but don't know squat about design. Any help is appreciated.

Well any good Bass amp is all about haveing a Good eq on the amp , so for a Simple bass amp with an eq you can just built a lm3886 for the Power amp , maybe use a BA3812 EQ chip to make a 5 Band graphic EQ and maybe a simple opamp at the front end as a Buffer with a Pot to controll the gain and maybe some clipping diodes if you are into a distorted fuzzy bass.....
As Far as there being an easy to build DIY Bass amp Project with detailed instructions on the net I don"t think you will find one nor do I know of any Kits .....
Good luck

For bass, the tone shaping isn't as big an issue as for guitar - they try to run a fair amount of power fairly clean. You might try finding schematics of one of the older Peavey bass amps to look over - they tended to use fairly standard op amp design in an intelligent manner. I will say that especially with solid state you're likely to spend more building your own than just buying a used commercial unit, so do it only if you just want to build. I would also consider building something at least 100 watts, as this is about as small as is practical for actual playing use in many situations, just turn down for practice. A simple, used solid state bass amp with between 30 and 100 watts can sometimes be found (Craigslist, pawn shops, Ebay) for less than $150. If you find one not working and fix it, you're talking less money than that.
Minion, yes the build is the idea.
Racket, I have the original Peavey Bass. Says nothing else on it. 210 watts. Best i ever found.
And to any one who cares......I'm looking for a bass amp with one chip each for pre and power amps. I got the skill to build, not design. And, yes, way cheaper to build than even to buy used. And much more fun.
