This is the project for a small ( 200l total ) subbass cabinet for dance enviroment. I made this ( 8 pieces ) for a small dance club .

This is just a small contribution .

I have a question about dumping material placement .

Do you think that is need to put some dumping material in the front chamber ?

Regards !

Good Graph

Your graph looks good, if you want, you could add some damping material against the walls...but thinly placed, just to absorb some of the waves. Bandpass enclosure are a little funny to tune...just like a TL...too much or too little, she will surely tell you.

Acoustic Foam

I have some convoluted (eggcrate) acoustic foam that is going in my Project MTM's and it should be good for your application. It should be easy to work with, just glue the surface and slap the foam on. Parts Express sells it. You get a fairly good-sized sheet of it when you buy.

Do you get any port noise out of the front chamber? How does their output compare to a single-18" bin? (this is assuming they have already been built)

I might start building a pair of subs to go with a set of PA speakers for a punk rock band that I often mix for. There is no bottom end at all to the old, beat-up Peavey mid-hi horns that they use, and I seek to remedy that. I am taking a serious look at your 6th-order design. Though it may be a bit more complicated to build, I am wondering if it is worth it to have a single-15" box that can keep up with mid-hi horns.

Your design is largely reminiscent of the Mackie SRS1500 6th-order active subwoofers designed to complement the SRM450s.

It is a 15" 6th-order bandpass subwoofer with a removable front panel, just like yours, though yours employs a rather unconventional porting scheme for the small chamber (6 ports makes for an interesting-looking box. I might recommend at some point putting a grille over it to prevent objects from being placed inside the ports.

Bam , thank you for your sugestions !

I don't have any port noise . Rectangular port have bigger air speed at 6 m/s and round ports have no more 3 m/s wich is far less at 17m/s wich is the point when the port will make some noise.

I will put this subbwoofer in a zone without people access, but I agree with you about the need of protection.

In this volume range this response is equal only with Eminence Kilomax 18" , but this 18" driver it cost twice much.

In my opinion this kind of design have many good feature for the dance clubs and band on the road.

Four subbass(6th) (2 x 1200w/4ohms) and four full range loudspeaker ( bass-reflex 15" + 1" ) ( 2 x 800w/4ohm) on each side of the concert stage will produce a high SPL for a 500 - 1000 people.

If a small band without to much money will can built this Sound Reinforcement system ( 8000w Rms ) with no more 6500 $ if the power amplifiers is second-hand.

Dan
