Avance concrete 170. Upgrade or love on?

i have an old set of fiber concrete speakers called avance concrete 170. I bought them modified with new woofers (Vifa 21WN340/8). And while the new woofers sounds phenomenal the almost 40 year old tweeters are starting to show their age. Plus the crossover wasn't changed when the new woofers.

Do you guys think I should build something new with the woofers or give them a shot. I mean. They're made out of fibre concrete. And they're pretty awesome looking (I'll upload some pictures later). What do you guys think?

Hi,

Building something new does not make much sense in your case, since the Avance Concrete 170 is a perfectly done 8"+1" speaker and you hardly will be able to do it any better. 😀

The current woofer is a high quality driver optimally suited for that kind of speaker. 21WN340/8 is the German name of the Vifa M21WO-39-08.

The tweeter apparently is a Vifa D25TG-55-06. Hellsound.de proposes the Vifa D27TG-35-06 as replacement tweeter: Vifa Premium Hochtöner und Mitteltöner

Looking at the crossover we see three electrolytic capacitors which certainly have to be replaced after 30 years. And a fuse holder which needs some cleaning. 🙂

Hi
I know it's a old tread but...

I have the exact same speakers "Avance Concrete 170" that im going to Upgrade
using the exact same drivers woofer Peerless/Vifa M21WO3908 and tweeter D27TG-35-06.
I can not find any information about what Woofer that the speakers did have from the start but right now it contains a P21WN-20-08 that do not have paper cone so im sure it is not the original ones.

Anyway i was asking about the crossover in an danish facebook forum. And someone there say that if i change the drivers from the original one then i have to measuring frequency response and impedance flow on the speakers sitting in the capinets and then recalculate the crossover components!

Do you think that is overkill in this case?

My own plan was just to change the capacitors to a good quality ones, find the best settings for the tweeter and then get rid of the fuse.

Hi,

I think your chances are good that the original crossover works well with the new drivers. Try that first and then we'll see. 🙂

I still don't know the actual coil values, but the result based on assumptions looks decent IMO.

Thanks
Today i got the change to measuring the coils

coilwoofer.jpg

Woofter coil says 0,94mH

coiltweeter.jpg

Tweeters coil says 0,10mH

Didn't you "twist" the two capacitor's for the tweet, for me it looks like the 6,8uF is closest to the tweeter?
