audio output transformer for piezo contact speaker

Hi folks,

First post here so please be cool.

I am an artist/maker in the process of building a sound sculpture. I am looking into using piezo's to create some nasty loud resonances (relatively high frequency of course) by attaching them to the steel structure of the sculpture and playing certain sounds through them, so getting extra resonance from the steel structure.

i have already tried this to good effect, powering 6 smallish piezo diaphragms (2.7cm dia) in parallel from one side of an old 30w p/channel 8ohm speaker output amp and then transforming the audio signal through an eagle LT700 audio transformer http://www.usefulcomponents.com/ebay/pictures/transformers/lt700_sheet.jpg which has a primary impedance of 1.2kohm and secondary of 3.2ohm. The amp I intend to finally use may be this or some similar to the cyrus.

Simply I would like to drive the piezos louder, and I understand that this means passing them a higher voltage signal, ie. transforming at a higher ratio than the eagle LT700 currently is.

Can anyone recommend me a suitable transformer for stepping up the voltage to the piezos? They can take up to 100v I am told but don't know how this works out in relation to particular current loads given my amp/transformer setup either.

Any help muchly appreciated!

Cheers

Maybe you can do some experiments with normal power transformers. If you use a torodial transformer the frequency range of the transformer is good enough for a piezo.

You can start with a 12v-230v transformer.
