Attaching a battery pack to a chassis?

I'm stumped. Every solution I think of leaves too much play in the position - ie it's not fully secured.

They are 12v nicd packs - see picture. Its basically 10 1.2v individual cells wrapped up neatly with over current/temp proctection.

How thick is it? Take a piece of plywood or particle board or even plexiglass somewhat larger than the dimensions of the pack, then route out a pack sized hole in the center. That makes a snug nest. Then screw a strap or cover plate across it. A piece of sturdy foam glued to the strap/cover (or on the floor under it) will gently clamp the battery in place.

Or even just mount say three posts down each side, and one per end, to position, then a strap or cover to clamp it down. I envision posts as screws through metal tubing, but actual standoff posts would work. In fact I used to manufacture a thing that used hex posts with threaded studs out one end and threaded holes in the other. The posts also come with threaded holes at both ends. The example is 1/4" diameter, but they come in larger as well. And they come in various lengths.

And it might help to know the dimensions of the pack, and the dimensions of the chassis, and will the chassis be exposed or within a cabinet? If enclosed, does the battery really have to be ON the chassis? I am thinking of some battery amplifiers that use larger gel cells, that are strapped into milled out spaces in wood internal members.
 
Thanks guys, here's what I came up with.

A little bit of friction tape, some weather seal, and a reliance on the chassis cover to provide some pressure.
