Anyone can send out cease and desist letters. Following up by taking them to court and winning is another matter. The guy is an idiot.

Seems he trademarked the Pi symbol with a period following it. So leave off the period and he go go f*** himself.

On second thought he go go f*** himself regardless.

You're right about the cease-and-desist letters, but he did obtain a copyright. Apparently he's seeking to expand his copyright empire to any representation of the π symbol. I'm astounded he was granted the copyright. What comes next-people copyrighting the alphabet?

Hasn't someone already copyrighted the letter 'i'?

My understanding is that (at least in Europe) copyright can only exist in a "work" - that is something which requires creativity and effort to produce. A single letter (from any alphabet) followed by a single punctuation mark would seem to me to fall far short of that standard - but I have not been to art college so I missed the module on 'creatively taking the p**s out of ordinary people'.

David: I think those pro bono lawyers that defend civil cases are rare, and there might be some great principle involved. This guy is going after T shirt manufacturers and others who are not destitute, but probably not big enough to write off a legal bill of several hundred thousand dollars with ease.

Stu: I see what you mean about the plaintiff's lawyer can work on contingency, the defendant has to pay up. In this case, I'm wondering if the plaintiff's lawyer is the artist's brother who lives in the downstairs apartment, lol. 😀

An uncle of mine cashed in not meaning to by securing a name before he even new it existed somewhere else they were offering to buy it for a pretty decent some. It was something for his beer wine and spirits business. Its nice when money falls in your lap an honest way. Unlike that douche out for the low blows.
