Is the motor driven by a simple resistor/cap arrangement? You may want to check them if it does. The resistor usually goes first.

Jeff

Yes it is , i have not yet checked them , but will now ..

The motor does work , just that it is noisy and seems to suffer from cogging ..

regards,

I replaced the motor in my AR XB turntable in 2006. I purchased it directly from Hurst. It is an A series motor #3001-001. In 2006 the cost was $47.00 This is the OEM motor for the later model AR turntables. If I remember correctly the motor came with a starting capacitor.

Hi, I'm logging in for the first time and would like to talk about modification to my AR 77XB if there's still anyone around. (I'm posting this in a few sections)

I've been thinking about spending lots of money I can't really afford on some U-beaut TT so a friend lent me his Rega P2 with a new Cart. The same week my cousin returned the AR (Denon 301 cart) to me after 20 years. Coincidence?

I set them both up as best I could and if there was a difference, it was a warmth from the AR and slightly better bottom end. For the REGA, I'd say there was slightly better separation bearing in mind that the AR cart is at least 15 years old.

So, without any more rambling, is there anyone out there who'll send some time talking about AR's with me?

Oh, one question, can I use Linn springs on the AR suspension?

Thanks, Chris

Yes, you can use linn springs. But you will have to mass load the suspension. Email me BaMorin@AOL.com. I can walk you through the table and how to properly set it up.....some nifty tweaks. They can be "giant killers" when done correctly......Mine are.

OK, first response did't show up. We'll try this again.
The reference to mass loading was more towards the use of Linn springs.
The Linn Springs are quite a bit stiffer than stock AR springs. In order to get them loaded to correct ride height and compression % about 3-3 1/2 pounds have to be added to the subchasis. And in correct placement to insure all 3 springs are compressed to equal height while maintaining platter level. E-mail me, and we'll go over a few things about set up, some other useful tips and tweaks......and things that can take the XA table to a performance level for a lot less than "performance" money
