Aha! I got the schematics from a buddie of mine.

Is it even possible to build without buying the kit? I'm thinking mostly about the PIC processor that have to be programmed. I saw that you can download the program, but I suspect that this ain't the howl thing, or?

The cost relative to making your own boards (with possible mistakes, etc), sourcing the parts, and programming your PICs makes little sense. For example, the rotary encoders cost about $20 apiece in small quantities from Digikey. So that's just over $40 + shipping. So the IR1 at $115 is now down to $75 for the pcb + parts + programmed PIC. You cannot make one pcb for less than about $50, and I do not think you can source all of the parts, along with the programming gear for the PIC--unless you already have this stuff--for the remaining $25.

Buying the APOX stuff direct is a good deal and saves you from having to de-bug your mistakes.

Good luck, Robert
