I'm looking into building my first sub box for my computer. I was just wondering what you guys thought about this subwoofer.

I am a poor college student so the price very attractive and 8" seems like a good size to me. Also does anyone know of some good compact box designs? Finally the ultimate nood question, I tried looking but I could not find a clear answer. What is the difference between a woofer, subwoofer and midbass?
Thanks for your time.

Midbass and woofer means almost the same thing. It's to reproduce sound under the midrange.

Subwoofer is below Midbass or woofer.

Most designs are like this:
Tweeter
Midrange
Woofer
Subwoofer

Then for your subwoofer, there's better for the money at PartsExpress.com

I got a Tangband w8-740c for my computer. it's perfect, it dont have any shielding but i have never seen any problem about that. and it got much better performance then dayton 8".

The MCM 55-2421 is another option.

Don't need large enclosures either.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I was looking at the box designs for the Dayton subs and they seem simple enough. I am tempted to get the 10" sub now, since there is only a $7 difference. Since I’ve never designed a sub before is this over kill for my small dorm room? I know this is my first project and I should stay simple. But does anyone know of any unorthodox box designs. I've seen a properly designed box with 2 6" subs shake a poor VW Golf to death.😱

It always depend on your budget... yes the 10" is good too.

The subwoofer in the webpage is quite small, it's a good design but you could use the same box size even with one driver since it's so small.

It depends on what box size you can tolerate and how low do you want to go or how loud...
