Anything inherently wrong with my bookshelf design?

We’re settled into our new townhome to the point where I’m able to focus on buttoning up my center/bass unit and bookshelf projects the bookshelf being the focus of the thread of course.
These bookshelves are only intended to hit 90db maximum in case it’s pointed out that these won’t be loud.

I think I want to put a lot of emphasis on wide directivity to achieve a wide soundstage even if it sacrifices focus. In my best efforts to design a very wide dispersion speaker set I went with a .23cf Denovo knock down, Anarchy 554, Peerless TC5FC07-04 (1.5”), and Dayton ND16-6 (5/8”). I believe in my small living room a 5.5” long throw woofer is going to be just fine, and an overall compact form factor was a design goal.

The power will come from a set of dsp amplifier boards and the woofers will be sealed and have a moderate high shelf filter applied to flatten the response, at the expense of blistering midbass output. I think I will have a realistically flat response to around 35hz at ~85 maybe ~90db with about 100rms to each anarchy.

I included a picture of my living room just in case I might not want very wide dispersion there for whatever reason.

Cheers

Anything Wrong? MDF.

I personally would use a 3” midTweeter instead of a rweeter and a mid, but, discounting what they sould like, i like their looks, small and compact. Is the mid closed back? I wouldalso move the mid+tweeter axis closer to the edge of the woofer and mirroe image them. Get them as close as you dare. 5-10mm max, you might be able to trim the tweeter bezel or tuck it under the mids to get them as close as possible.

I’ve thought about running a RS100 aluminum cone fullrange if I were to go for narrow dispersion for the room. It would actually drop right into the cutout, which would be for a 1/4” pvc sheet with an appropriately sized pvc pipe end cap adhered to the back like I did with my tectonic 2” bmr’s in my shop speakers.

I thought I had a picture of the enclosures with the cutout and painted but an rs100 fits snug as a rug. I’m considering running the rs100 and fabricating a egg shaped tweeter capsule to mount on top of the cabinet ??

What crossover frequency are you planning for the woofer to 1.5 inch?

My concerns being directivity differences between them and displacement/power limited output on the 1.5 inch. Compared to a good 3 or 4 inch mid, the 1.5-2 inch drivers tend to be quite limited in my experience. Even stepping up to something like the Dayton ND64 tends to be a significant improvement, but it's still going to depend on how you're trying to use them.

I’m thinking having the 554 pass the baton to the 1.5” around 5-600hz and then letting the tweeter do it’s thing from 5-6khz up. No real reason for the multiple of ten xover ballpark. I’m also going to use a shelf filter on the 554 to bring down the midbass similar to this doctored graph. No offense yall, I just want to clarify what I will be doing with the shelf filter. Because the shelf filter will lower the woofers overall output the overall system spl isn’t expected to be any higher than ~90db absolute maximum.

What if I went with a RS100, which would drop perfectly in this cutout and then mounted the small neo tweeter here playing around 4khz and up? I’m going to be running the 554’s hard to get lower bass and wouldn’t mind having the RS100 take over from ~200hz to remove all midrange from the highly excursion of the 554.

I could also use two of the peerless 1.5” mids on either side and find a nice tweeter with a small waveguide to tighten dispersion a little because of the room geometry. Not sure where comb filtering would come into play with two 1.5’s set 4” apart though but it would give me a little more meat in the midrange and allow cleaner reproduction.

There is a build in progress at Parts Express Tech Talk using Anarchy 708, RS100, ND20FB

https://techtalk.parts-express.com/forum/tech-talk-forum/1490282-anarchists-build-log

Pete Schumacher designed the Ion 4 Plus speakers at diysoundgroup.com that use the RS100 with a Wavecor tweeter (and the Ion 4 that run the RS100 without a tweeter).

I have a small two-way with RS100 and Dayton PTmini planar - the RS100 is a nice sounding driver. So is the TC9FD18, which although out of stock at Parts Express is in stock at Digi-key.

I’m 41 and don’t think I can hear much over 15khz. I can also situate the speakers to point directly at the listening position. I’ve run fountek fr88’s, tectonic bmr’s, cdt 2” and probably some other fullrangers and they seem to get me 95% there. If I used a tweeter with the rs100’s it wouldn’t be a super tweeter, I’d run it around 4-5k. I might just try the RS100 as mid tweet and see. Would definitely simplify the active wiring needs.

I'm 52 and can't hear much above 13khz. But other people also listen to the speakers in my house, and somehow I seem to have a wife and kids with bat-like hearing abilities.

My speakers and the Ion 4 Plus xo the RS100 at 5khz
