Anyone used TX 284 Opamp?

Hi

Texas Components make the TX-284 Precision Opamp (dual channel) which they claim is a drop-in for audio circuits like DAC outputs etc.

I'm keen to learn if anyone's had any experience & whether is it anywhere comparable to the OPA 627 etc.

Feedback will be most appreciated.

Thanks in advance!!

do not bother with it, I also was very interested in this opamp; as these guys make some of the most amazingly tightly produced and transparent audio resistors on the planet (the Z foil naked TX2575) which I use every chance I get; but the TX284 is simply an opamp that has been optimized for extreme operating environments; ie. extreme heat and pressure. its designed for use in mining systems, thus the use of ceramics. the design is several years old and the specs are less than spectacular, the only advantage it has is this ability to be used when on the surface of the sun 😉 cant remember off the top of my head which ti opamp it is the equivelant of, but it is simply an existing and quite old design that has been adapted. just take a look at the spec sheet and you will see it is not even in the same league as the OPA627

there is a reason that even though it has been around for about 5 years, there is not one example on the entire interweb of it being used in audio; this is what tipped me off and had me looking at spec sheets. eventually I asked them at texas when I was getting my resistors order what the go was with it and they filled me in on which opamp it was. I was then able to deduce that all of the extra 40 dollars you spend on this opamp went into the R&D and materials needed to produce an opamp that was reliable at these temperatures. it even comes with an onsite warranty, so if it fails within specified ranges they will replace it free of charge.

no problem, I actually think you can do better than OPA627 as well. the 627 is a great opamp, no question, but i'm favoring other more modern designs. also cheaper. I prefer some of the offering by national like LME49710HA., AD797BRZ, the OPA827 gets very close to 627 for much less and the new OPA211 is superb. the OPA627 is still a great opamp, but i'm not certain its worth the money. for some idea, heck this thread out over at my fave forum yes i'm a headphone geek
