Hello guys
I am currently back on track now to finish my audio system as through the years moving has always made me restart and then reset my whole set-up. 😛 looking at mains and how the whole process should be fuse box, ring main, filters which I have now found a substitute that gives purepower yes 100% pure. so then mains cable then connecters inclusive of iec. I started to think ok what about inside. we get all excited about the outside and never see inside. if were looking at reference stuff its normally quite good and so the wire should be of a high current and quality to stop oxidisation and hinder power coming in.
so I thought ok lets use the same cable externally to go all the way for power. NOW 2 days ago I thought I know that on high end and to a point now on low end very high quality connecters as phono are used on all audio devices all the way to the board. yet if you have audio that's of a certain price range and more than say 4-5 years of age, the phono might look very nice if u kept it clean. I decided to see what connection was being used and was shocked at the piece of metal within a plastic casing they use to connect this phono socket.
I would love to hear views on this topic of phono connections. my ideas now is to change the rf connection on a reference tuner to a pure gold 75ohm bnc socket and then pick a pure gold plug terminated on to a silver cable of high standards straight to the aerial using eichman 5.2 silver soldier.
the next descion to be made is to remove the sockets on other components and change them for silver with a rhodium plate using the above soldier to terminate to the board with mundorf 1% gold/silver hook up cable so that when I am using reference pure silver interconnects on everything from mains to connections I am achieving the full benefit.

pure gold 75ohm bnc socket
If you don't mind:
- gold is a poor conductor and only used to prevent oxidation (sure looks also pretty)
- pure gold sockets don't exist commercially, because material is too expensive and too soft mechanically (bad for reliability)
Good sockets/connectors are more than gold, in principle I like the WBT-stuff. Extremely well made mechanically, but horribly expensive. Use standard solder and solder correctly (hot enough) for a clear solder joint and everything will be fine.
Have fun, Hannes
Hi hannes
Hope your keeping well, I would not use standard soldier as the led content is high and this is actually a poor contact. The eichman is the purest soldier used by many who make high-end speakers and amps. But used as you correctly put well and with a 50- watt soldier unit will give an excellent connection transfer and hold.
Cheap connections of gold yes are a waste of time and wbt is measured in its gold content. Again your correct I wrongly put pure gold, what I meant to say is a very high grade of gold plated as with wbt. there are many others on the market using excellent connection capabilities I would say equal to wbt in many respects with very special copper as a base and then electroplated to give a proper bond not just dipped that wears of. I have not found yet a rhodium bnc chassis connecter but furutech do a cable connecter that’s rhodium and not to expensive considering it’s them.
I actually have another thought going on a silver connection with a rhodium plaiting to stop corrosion and wear this a possibility. As I will be using silver cables it may be a better match.

Gold is a poor conductor ?!?! I must go back to school then.
No problem, here is the electrical conductivity for pure metals (also on wikipedia 😉 )
Silver 63.0 × 106
Copper 59.6 × 106
Annealed Copper 58.0 × 106
Gold 45.2 × 106
Aluminium 37.8 × 106
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electrical_conductivity
As you see, gold is about as good as aluminium and has about twice the resistance of silver.
I would not use standard soldier as the led content is high and this is actually a poor contact.
That's true as every solder joint is electrically not a great contact (about 6 times the resistance of copper). 2% silver content does not change much. But of course feel free to use if, if you prefer it.
Have fun, Hannes
