So in my internet travels I stumbled upon a website for a company called "human speakers". well it turns out the company is about 25 minutes from my house. So I called and talked to the owner for more than half an hour on the phone. great guy, filled with information.
I've been looking to build a nice 3 way speaker kit. And this one looks to be in my price range. What do you guys think ???

Looks like a nice speaker. The angled cabinet walls will be more of a challenge than a rectangular box. You may have to create some tooling to cut them like that. I could only wing it chasing a line with a carpenter saw - or build up a long fence to run that saw along.
Human Speakers is descendant of legendary EPI (Epicure) and Genesis Physics loudspeaker companies (Model EPI 100 was sold in hundreds of thousands units back then), running by former employee of Genesis Physics. Human Speakers makes its own loudspeaker models now, but also is making kits and drop-in replacement drivers for several popular old models of EPI, including famous concave dome tweeter.
Huw is a nice feller (albeit a bit slow moving) the drivers he makes/sells are mediocre at best.......this comes from first hand experience. I would definitely go and give them a listen first if your that close.....if he doesn’t have that exact model built, the drivers are all the same, just different configurations.

Would be very interesting if you have some measurements of his drivers (or speakers) to share with us.
The philosophy behind is reasonable. Get parts as cheap as possible and raise the price in the same manner while maintaining the sound quality as good as designer can. If I were to acquire any loudspeaker kit, I'd demand the driver brand and parts quality of a reputable company.

Here's the deal- the basic "Burhoe module" is a minimalist thing.
The woofer(the primary 8") is designed to roll off without external circuitry. The inductance is high enough to make a separate coil unnecessary to meet the tweeter with its single cap's HP.
The tweeter is called an 'inverted dome', but is actually a miniaturised cone-type, while an inverted hemisphere, its coil is smaller than the diaphragm, so not technically a dome.
With the basic module, these are 'fill the room' speakers, not in your face close-up ones.
The 3.0 is a very different beast, with a midrange and a full crossover. And the 'as narrow as each driver' baffle gives much more of a modern image.
Huw may be able to refer you to a 3.0 builder, but it's always worth a chance to hear the 1000s(though few of us have the room for them). It's like the first time you hear a good pipe organ in a really good building.
So go for a visit when it becomes practical for you both.(we live in Vt, but leg issues limit travel time, so I haven't got over to see Huw, but I heard 1000s in the eighties in a few settings).

The problem is the replacements are not as good as the originals.....I spent a year going round and round with him rebuilding a set of Burhoe blues. His speakers are relegated to my ‘parts’ box.
