I've been experimenting with a reflector system and getting some pleasant results. Just messing around with some 4x4x3/4 inch insulation foam panels and it makes a nice WELL dispersed sound with little beaming. The foam I used will pass significant sound through, and is a bit soft surfaced. I set the reflector panel about 4.5 feet from the ten inch three way's.
The idea is the have the speaker horizontally oriented, near the floor, back side to the listener and point up, to the panel, about 4 - 5 feet away from the business end of the speaker, for starters. I think it would really be better to reliably place the speaker high, angling down to the reflector.
I would also like to hear if a parabolic curve to the panel would be a help. I do not know much about sonics and do not have the resources to market this, so I figured 'd toss it out.

I forgot to mention it has the effect of being a 4x4 foot speaker, my big reason. I think a pro designed reflector shape and material might work out very well.
awww, now those aren't 4x4 feet. If you did put one in a restroom and hooked a mic to it, and they step up, you could yell, THIS IS NOT A UNRINAL.
That isn't what I had in mind, and well, now is as good a time to tell as ever. I was playing around with a nasty sounding tweeter, I sonically shielded it and used it to drive (by projection) a 2 inch by 6 inch band of some very hard plastic. The sweetening results were dramatic, it became very pleasant but unfortunately had a muted sort of timbre in the lower frequencies.
Tweeter through cavity, to semicircle ribbon inside, re-radiates to outside.
The dispersion was like a ribbon tweeter, VERY impressive.
This projection stuff has promise.
