Anyone built a Unistrut equipment rack?

Hi Gents,

I've been working day and night on a hydraulic project involving a lot of Unistrut P1000 channel and associated fittings (P1026, P1033, channel nuts etc) in combination with industrial vibration control/isolation products. All these items are readily available and compared to equivalent consumer grade products - very keenly priced. Think Meccano for Engineers, Plumbers and Electricians if you're not familiar with it. Assembles in seconds and is very rigid and heavy.

I'm thinking a simple cube frame with right angle brackets + neoprene isolators/shears supporting black slate shelves (2 off with Dynamat constrained between per shelf) could be the ultimate vibration buster.

So has anyone 'had a go' at this, or am I completely off my waffle pad?

Thanks for your thoughts.

Cheers Doug,

I didn't know about Rexroth Alum. It does indeed look less 'industrial wasteland' than Unistrut. I'll have a go with the Unistrut as there will be substantial leftovers from the project, and it will eat away at me seeing it all in a pile in the corner unused...if it doesn't work out as a hi fi rack I'll attach castors & a winch and use it as a lifting gantry for heavy plant. Something on the wish list anyway.

You can be sure I'll have fun building!
