Old Peerless square frame woofers.
Although with an Fs of 55 to 60Hz [ DATS ] they are more a midbass.
I picked them up at a garage sale a while ago and just now thinking of using them.
Surface mounting type.
They did have old style blue Peerless stickers but those came off when I took the crossover components off the back of the magnet, it was a coil ??. I may have mentioned that in the past but I can't find that thread
I think the "88" stamped on the back of the cone might be the year of assembly

Actually I was wondering if I could use them as a big midrange if I could find an affordable low crossing tweeter; sort of a clone of the Tandy Optimus1B
They sound better to my ears than the 200mm Coral driver in the 1B but that may just be because they are peaking where my hearing loss is

How low do you need to cross? Maybe something like the Peerless DA25, if they're still available?
Or even a Vifa TC-7 2.5" paper full range, about $20 from Digikey

Well I prefer to cross above 3k myself, mainly because I'm a lazy builder
The old Optimus was crossed much higher than 3k tho from memory,
Postage/shipping from Parts Express or the UK on the Peerless is crazy expensive even if they were available as singletons
Buy price from Digikey is $53-K but you do get 1000 of them for that cost

My memory is maybe playing up; the Coral 200mm driver I have isn't from the 1B, that used a 250mm woofer and two little mid-tweeters
If you want to cross over at 3,000, what about Vifa BC25TG?
Fabric dome, 1" tweeter, sound very nice; have used in three builds crossed at anything from 2100 (Classix II) to 2800Hz (Ralf Giralfino's two ways).
I have some in my stash if you're interested; fs is stated around 1100Hz.

Thanx for the offer, I'll check my own stash first, I should have a pair of D27s there and might use those. But second thoughts and maybe I'd be better off with a 3-Way and a better midrange
I haven't used the D27s but they're reportedly a very nice unit, probably superior to the BC25s.

And guess who didn't take pix of the labels?
Jeez was it really that long ago
Time to make a new workbench and get some new boxes done. I was using the old dining room table but that is now for eating off again.

I have a post up about the Tandy Optimus 5B I just got. I may use the woofer and the box as a .5 bass boost and put a small 3-Way on top. If I flip the box so the driver is at the top is will sit about the correct height above the floor, as they were recommended to use on an 8 inch stand and for my purposes 10" is close enough. I'll flip the small drivers on eBay
You could try a partial Open Baffle on the woofer
