Any source of information on Radio Shack 40-1315 drivers (15”)?

Just picked up a pair of large drivers at a garage sale, Radio Shack 40-1315 15” drivers. For 10 euros, not a huge risk.

Can’t find much info apart from that they would be 8 Ohms (DC resistance is indeed 5.9 Ohms), 100W and go from 35 Hz to 12 KHz. If all that is true.

Is there somewhere a RS catalogue (scanned at sufficient resolution to be legible) describing these?

They would be a musical instrument speaker, like for a guitar amp or for an electronic organ.

Have yet to attempt a listening test (open baffle 1.70 x 1.20 m).

Thanks for any info or pointers!

Thank you for the link! Should have searched for Radio Shack Catalogs, of course. Browsing through these brings back many memories, for instance the positive and optimistic tone of the descriptions. It was a pleasure to read at that time and it still is.

The 2000 catalog shows the 40-1301 15” driver (free-air resonance 20 Hz), the 1973 catalog mentions the 40-1315 driver with a free-air resonance of 45 Hz.

Likely more a candidate for a guitar amp cabinet than for audio, so it seems.

Cheers,

I'd take a listen to it, the resonance is low enough that it may be of use, and also, because it pours out all of the punishing power of today's heavy sounds!, its got to be good!!! It's likely to be efficient. The question is box or open baffle? These are the type of speakers I find intriguing. Good luck!

FWIW, all the RS driver specs I had were in the ~0.45 - 0.55 Qt range, so designing with 0.5 should be good enough once broken in. Vas OTOH needs to be measured or at least figure the net volume of the recommended RS box *1.44.
