Amp/Xover or plate amp?

Hi,

I'm currently building 2 12"subwoofers for my stereo system.
Each of them would be powered by a UCD180/400 mono amp.

Since I do have a preamp, I need an xover (want subs
to cross over at about 45Hz) such as those on the plate amps.
Behringer is probably overkill for a sub-only application.

Is there any DIY kit or reasonably priced xover that
you would recommend? Or should I go with a plate amp
from Hypex instead?

Thanks for your help,

Mike

i cannot give you a schematic, but i can give you advice.

plate amps usually have rumble fitlers which would help out ALOT in your situation if you plan to be watching movies. Rumble filters make your drivers last through lifes little accidents, such as "who would have though that the sound of a machine gun could have significant output at 16hz?"<---ask the driver with the mushroom shaped former.

if this is for music, you probably dont need a rumble filter, unless you listen to telarcs 1812 overture every night at reference levels.

I have a few crossover boards left from the group buy. They are $5 each, you'll need 2 for a stereo setup. You should be able to complete them for $20-30. The crossover does more than you need for subwoofer duty, but you can leave the unused parts open.

I also have power supply boards and parts kits, $5 and $20.25 respectively. See the group buy section for details on both boards.
