So my situation is that I own a Jamo Sub 660. I took it to the service rep where I live and they told me that the board is burnt out and wanted to charge me about $800 to replace it.
I figure this is a very good reason for me to look into building one myself. Either that or diagnose the faulty components and try to replace?
I have no schematic though so I think it will be a matter of building one myself using the existing power supply which I will have to take a look at to figure out it's specs.
Sub Specs as follows.
Specifications SUB 660
System Closed
Woofer (mm / in) 305 / 12
Impedance (Ohm) 22 k (I assume this is the circuit, not the speaker?)
Frequency Range (Hz) 24 - 200
Cut off Frequency (Hz) 40 - 200
Phase (deg.) 0 to -180
Boundary Gain Compensation Var.
Switch Auto-On / Off
Line in Left / Right
Speaker level in Left / Right
Amplifier Rated output (W) 660
Stand-by power (W) < 0.5
The 660W output was far more than I ever used. I think I could easily get away with less than that if it is more practical to attempt an amp that runs less. I suppose much will depend on the existing power supply inside the sub.
Also given the stand-by power consumption I am assuming this is a D-Class? Has anyone done anything like this in the past? Are there any handy schematics for this sort of thing?
Also, I have some experience building tube amps, no experience with solid state but I understand the basics.
