I have a 50k RK27 log pot with an additional pin per channel, so it has 4x2 pins. Those pins don't seem to be connected internally. Are they for shielding or purely mechanical?
Those should be loudness taps. Are you certain they are not resistively connected to the other pins?
There is no shielding, other than that the bushing must be grounded.

Loudness tap? I rechecked it again and it looks like a fixed 1/7 tap. What is it for? Those should be loudness taps. Are you certain they are not resistively connected to the other pins?

Seems useless. Thank you.
Loudness was an almost mandatory feature decades ago. Sometimes it was nice at low volume, sometimes it just wasn't.
Practical problem with the implementation is (on commercial amplifiers) that usually the tap (for "starting" loudness effect) is located at 12:00 of the vloume knob and nowadays that position is not "lower volume" any more 😉Loudness is for compensating the ears ability to skew tonal balance at lower volume.
