AFAIK those "ALPS" pots are Chinese knockoffs. I know the ones made to look like "blue velvet" pots were reputed to be rather good. Don't know about the fake black beauties.
Hey Greg, let me know if you find something. We can probably group an order.
You might want to look through this thread I started some time back:

Real Alps Blue here, for $15. This guy is VERY reputable, and has what I believe to be the best tutorial on the web for a first chip amp project, the CMoy headphone amp:

His "Audiologica" section is required reading for noob would-be amp builders.

Enjoy.

Selection a little limited, however. 50K. I wonder where he gets them from?GrahamnDodder said:Real Alps Blue here, for $15. This guy is VERY reputable, and has what I believe to be the best tutorial on the web for a first chip amp project, the CMoy headphone amp:

while cleaning up my room I found a box of alps 744t-10kbx2, they are dual 10k and have a motor atached to them.
I have about 15 I think, I guess I could spare some if anyone need something similar.

I dunno, but I know he buys in bulk. They are 50k because that is the value his headphone amp circuits (ppa, meta, etc) use.
AFAIK, Partsconnexion is selling, not the pot, but the switched attenuator in the black beauty case.
100k, 22 steps, about 2.5dB/step.
This is the next best thing you're gonna get to a goldpoint, DAcT or TKD switched att. Way better than a regular conductive plastic alps blue or black.
IMHO, no other choice is worth contemplating at the price.

Is there a site where we can see all the models?
I found www3.alps.co.jp but I can see the the 27mm model and a 50mm high quality model pot .Are these the blue and black models respectively? I don't see a switched attenuator.

Maybe. US$15 apiece plus shipping, Paypal, etc. I ordered his META42 board so I'm confident he's reliable.GringoAudio said:PaulB
Do you want to order a few of these?
Greg
The switched attenuators were not a standard line, they were a custom manufacture for pro use. I don't know how many were made, I expect it was a few thousand but I know that they sell out pretty fast wherever they appear.
There is a guy on eBay who sells them every now and then too.
His photos show the body (same as the the black beauty) opened up to display the switched attenuator.

I still have some of those http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=3279&highlight=attenuators
which are probably better than any Alps switching attenuators. Since mine didn't sell that well, I'm also more flexible on a previously quoted price😉
