Hi guys, Any thoughts on wheels as amp houses? About 10kg of large (ish) surface area alloy. Got a few kicking about. Might try it out. Will the Nickel content be an issue? I wonder what the c/w would be? Any thoughts on how to find out. Thanks in advance for any thoughts.🙂
We saw them here on this forum! Finding those pics could be difficult. So, as the mighty ZM suggests, you must do it. Do, or do not, there is no try 'Yoda
😀
😀
Thanks.
I will "do". Not sure that my living room needs an auto-jumble makeover but cheapskates can't be choosy.

Aluminum gravity casting alloys (and most other Al alloys) don't have have the thermal conductivity of pure Al or bus bar alloy, but sheer material volume can make up the difference. Just bolt it up and mind yer temperatures. The temperature is what matters.
Ideally, I always thought the mag (magnesium) rims were perfect for a Circlotron Amp. Somehow a nice synergy???
😀
These days I suppose they are not magnesium just something like 6061 aluminum but whatever...
The big deal is finding a flat spot to mount the xistors on...

Cut off the rim and just use the spokes and centre.
I have a few in the loft ?? The centre would certainly take a 2pair output stage.
Just as well I don't have family affecting decisions !

Yes! Use one with lots of spokes, and cut the rim off. Or keep the rim as the amp's enclosure, mount the output transistors to the bottom edge (mill flats) and blow a bit of air over it. Fugly!
