Am contemplating on building a Class A amp and need your opinion about Aleph J, Hiraga 20 W, and Ovation SX. Knowing that auditory appreciation is highly subjective, I would love to know which one of these would you choose to build and enjoy and why. This will greatly help me in making a choice. As mid and high response is well appreciated usually in a class A design, What I am hoping to hear from the amp is a well articulated bass line (need not be loud, but distinct rather than a mumbling in the background) and would appreciate your opinion. Thank you.
They're all on the too-low power side unless you've got a pretty small room. Your speakers aren't terribly efficient. Tubes might work better in that power range of class A. Perhaps F5 Turbo?
Class A power (bias), peak class AB power (voltage rails), output current (no. of output transistors, ps caps), gain (feedback). Plus, all the experience and Papa himself in these forums.
Can you stand the thought of your amp running too hot to touch? Because that's what's done the rabbit hole.
