It's not just the output devices - it's the whole output stage, though this is a common arrangement where Hybrid thick film modules are used. It's just a pity that the modules are now usually either unobtanium, untested pulls or very shabby copies from you-know-where. Ebay has some US sourced originals (claimed) for a fair price and this might be the safer way to go 😉

To make a preliminary assessment, do the standard test of powering up the amp with nothing connected. You can't simply measure the DC voltage across the output terminals so you'll have to open up and get access to the output relay and identify the amplifier output trace(s) there. Measure the voltage between these (both channels) and the output -ve terminal. If this is > 100mV - Yep, you have a pile of junk.

Decide what you want do about it and what you can afford in time, expertise and money to get it going or even gut the amplifier boards and DIY a pair of nice suitable sized amplifiers from our vast and growing collection or cut a few corners and buy kits of parts.

AIWA audio gear was variously "ho-hum" to absolute engineering marvels in some of their up-market equipment so I hesitate to paint them with the broad brush of just another Japanese brand. I read that this mini Hi-fi combo. was designed as a convenient bit of kit for living in close quarters rather than form the basis of a high-end system, though. Is it really what you want to end up with?

I only paid a few £s from a flea market for the preamp tuner amp.
