Hi,
Did anyone try to connect an AES/EBU source to the Wolfson WM8804 receiver chip?
What is the correct implementation for this input?
Thank you.

For single ended input you need 110 ohm resistors to ground or a digital pulse transformer in single ended or balanced configuration.
Thanks for your reply.
Maybe I was unclear:
Provided a balanced AES/EBU source, may I connect an AES-3 high level signal, range 2 to 7 Vpp, (through a 1:1 pulse transformer) to the WM8804.
Datasheet on page 11 only states:
Or:
would it be better to use a 1.21:1 pulse trafo followed by an 8:1 (-18dB) passive attenuator, to derive 0.5/0.6Vpp to feed 8804 s/pdif input?
Please refer to fig. 1 of this application note:
Interfacing AES3 & S/PDIF
(The WM8804 supply will be 3.3V for both digital and pll sections -DVDD and PVDD-).
Any comment/suggestion?
Thank you in advance.

From what I can see in the datasheet you are limited to the PS voltage or slightly lower. A properly terminated AES 3 signal will be attenuated 6db (3.5V max) but that is still too high if the source is full rated signal level. A 1.21 stepdown pulse trafo would be your best bet and you shouldn't need any more attenuation.

I have heard about people using HiFace with DACs equiped with WM880x. Hiface has output level well beyond SPDIF specification, maybe even beyond AES PRO. I wouldn't use Wolfson for AES/EBU, better solution seems to be CS8416 with some ASRC...
