I am new at this so please excuse a silly question.I have a tube amp and a tube preamp, both without any tone controls. Is it possible to add bass and treble controls to this little system? If so how and where in the system would I install them?Keep in mind I am a pure novice at this.
Thanks in advance,

If the pre-amp has enough drive and gain maybe a passive tone control between the pre-amp and power amp would work - have to be careful to find out what the input of the power amp looks like since a passive tone control will interact with the input impedance of the power amp unless you buffer it. I'm a novice at this too so don't take my advice as golden.

Yes if there is enough gain and spare headroom that will work.
Morgan Jones 4th edition has a pentode based tone control which seems to have very little insertion loss. No need of logarithmic potentiometers.
Hi,
As ever the best solution depends on the specific
details of the preamp and power amplifier, and
IMO passive between them is unlikely to be
the best choice*, and preamp mods the best.
rgds, sreten.
*simple tone shaping is always possible,
but full on proper tone controls passive
simply won't work well in most cases.

Thanks for the info.So sreten since I have no clue what to look for or where to buy it,could you point me in the right direction as to what, where to buy it and how to wire it.I have no problem with soldering but I would need help with the layout.I hope I'm not being apita but I really am lost.
Thanks again,

I received several Heath WA-P2 preamplifiers, and the tone controls were awful.
There was no mutual setting of the bass and tone pots which yielded flat response.
This circuit is pretty low distortion.
The Heath preamps are being retrofitted with a variant (single-ended) of SY's "Equal Opportunity" grounded grid phono and preamplifier stages. There are 3 spots for tubes in the WA-P2s.
An externally hosted image should be here but it was not working when we last tested it.
