Hello,
First 5 pcbs batch is over. But I post if there is an interest for a next batch as users testing it are more than happy.
I worked several years to meet my expectations with the AD1862 20 bits DAC chip. Made several protos as I already worked with the boards made by painkiller and miro1360 projects long time ago.
So Why another pcb ? I wanted to stay NOS but a pcb enhanced for :
Mostly I think it is good enough to figth some cheap chineese DAC or even many DIY I listened as far the musicality is a concern. I listen to all music genres. It stays cheap for the quality. People whom heard it have very good hifi and have already a lot of DACs whatever TDA1541A, AD1862 already, AKM, ESS and find my is fantasstic and were surprisd by its musicality with my BOM personal choice. It sounds not clinic and have clearness and transparency yet, voices have weigth and are not without incarnation. You can hear the bells, while it will not drills your ears... non fatiguing sterile DAC ! SLigth on the mat/Dark side, more LP12 sound than CD players sound to try to find an illustration.
I think I have achieved something great SQ/P ratio. It neeeded 4 layers to reach the road map. I will not make a living from that but few sold pcb will cover a little part of the devlopment and tests if you ask about the motivation, A second one is I am fed up with people purchasing several cheap dacs one after another and loosing too much monney with staying in the same non musical family of DAC. At least according to me.
Price is 30 euros the 4 layers PCB +registered parcel shipment at cost. It is furnished with shematic and general BOM. PP family & friend.
Same PCB with my personal BOM ("my BOM" option) is 45 euros. It is 15 euros more but I provide few capacitors with it. I advice this one as I spent time long time to voice it among a lot of op amps testings and voicing. The winner was not AD811 or opa1655 nore the op861 which is certainly the best of the 3 btw since you worka little on it. those are no slouch but anyway proves are in the pudding and I like some icing on the cake !
What you will need is a compatible front end. the pcb has an header for the USB JLSOUNDS board as u-fl sockets on the bottom for Iancanada I2StoPCM or York from eclipsevl member's USB board at DIYA (this one is allowing to choose you crystal clocks if you want. There are other choice too in some countries like US (DIYHINK ad1862 front end iirc).
You need too at minimum 4 secondaries: a +5V/0/-5V supply and +12V/0/-12V if choossing a 12V for the op amps. the 12V being shared with in this scenario with the op amp if you want to stay cheap. You can add a third power supply according the op amps you choose if you need another voltage than the compatibility with the 12V analog side of the AD1862.
You need to be ablle to solder 0805 smd parts which is the lowest casing used on that board to permitt it to be populated by most of pople.
The AD1862 dac chip are not provided. Best source is DIYAUDIO and Rochester or some already known Ebay vendor proved to be reliable. (US has one iirc)
If interrested put your id member in the next posts. It is an "Interrest MOQ Group Buy. Need 5 pcbs to targett a pcb order. Shipped from France (registered with insurance, around 15 euros often, pls ask).
Thanks

So Why another pcb ? I wanted to stay NOS but a pcb enhanced for :
- - a pcb allowing a layout for high speed SOIC 8 op amps and also a further follower voltage gain or buffer with a second soic 8 after the conversion if needed.
- - a pcb to be very quiet with digital and analog current zoning and segregated loops and no crossing of some return current.
- - a pcb that is versatile w/o trade off quality for the layout in order to test different I/V ; op861 TIA op amp, AD811 CFA op amps, the speediest VFA opamps, tube or discrete third board output. Permitting too independant voltage to choose between these several op amps : 5V, 12V, 15V, 18V or what you want as it is not feeding the dac chip which has its own PS plugs. I wanted some compensating external options for non unity gain op amps as well.
- - a pcb allowing 50 ohms digital and analog signals impedance matching and a very low inductance ground and Vref.
- - a pcb which can use electrolythic caps through hole without harming the segregated current loops according the layers and zoning... I like to play with caps ! But also smd parts where it matters.
- - I wanted the digital input to be compatible with sota third party I2S to AD1862 front end boards without wasting their layout.
- -I wanted to have through hole as smd for the resistor and capacitor I/V choice for testing the op861.
- I wanted the whole sounds very good to me and I had to make several prototypes.

I luckily had the opportunity to listen to diyiggi's DAC at home and want to share my first and second email to him which reflects my initial impressions of having heard his DAC in my system. It consists mainly of Abraxelitos mono amps and a set of Bastanis open baffle speakers. The DAC directly drives the amp in my system and in recent years Miros AD1862 with opa1655 i/v did work here. Powered by one PSU2 for the DAC and one TS7A regulator for IANs SPDIF to i2s Input board - nothing fancy.
Iggy asked me about the sound of my speaker and I mentioned a weakness between 100 and 250 Hz.
The following is an expression of my pleasant surprise, when I first heard Iggys DAC. The surrounding setup was close to mine in terms of PSU and i2s went through the shift registers on one of Miros pcbs. Contrary to my setup the digital side of the AD1862 was supplied by two TS7A regulators.
<<Dear Iggy,
Your DAC is a winner! The Bastanis absolutely sing with it! There is tonality and a rendering of space - unbelievable. This for me plays like a 200000k€ Setup, or so ;-) Haven't heard this from my speakers before. I was sitting in a church, in a concert hall, in a Jazz Club.... Be sure, I want to build it. Great work my friend! Chapeau!
Unfortunately I have to go sleeping now, otherwise I wouldn't stop listening.....>>
<<Hi Iggy, I listened to the DAC yesterday with the blue electrolytics.
I was very enthusiastic last night, right from the second track. To hear the specialization, depth, high and low Level dynamics and finesse that the Bastani are capable of here in my living room. It's amazing that a DAC so close to the one I have got can make such a difference.
It also shows what Richards amps are capable of. I'm looking forward to another listening session.>>
For my audiofoolish happiness, a 3D stage in music reproduction is a very important detail. My Miro DAC version gave me a less precise picture of what happens on stage. Iggy's DAC really opens up the room for me. Instruments are no longer somewhere back there, but exactly in one place in the room. Amazing. And the weakness I mentioned above was gone.
Take this just as my subjective opinion! Beside my listening experience I measured both, Iggys and my DAC (again) and found a lot more high order distortions when measuring my Version.
Cheers

Thank you Ernst, I remember those parts of the mails 🙂.
Much appreciated. 🙂. I am glad it worked as good with your high efficienty Basatanis than in my sealed system with different sort of drivers (aluminium for the mid & tweeter).
made me wanting to try the amp from Abraxalito too. While my main is driven by a Chord amp because of the poor efficienty of my 3 ways loudspeakers made by Phil Jones (84 dB/2.83V, I sligthy remade the filter by working on caps and resitor and adapt to my room by working on the bass Qtc).

I will PM you to know your country to tell the shippment cost after having checked. I have to check the price of the BOM as well without the caps provided "in MY BOM" option. in order you have a better idea of the cost I pay at Mouser in France (without VAT has each country has its own) to populate it w/o the dac chips (you have to find first) and the front end of course. I will re ask to you after that by PM if it is okay for you.
If you have questions, don't hesitate to PM or ask here : https://www.diyaudio.com/community/...r-ad1862-core-pcb-with-4-layers.429366/latest
Anyway you will have my personal mail if you take the pcb for assistance if you need it beyond the assembling manual I provide.
In the meantime, if others members are interrersted don't hesitate below to beginn another interrest grup buy / waiting list.
Thanks for your interrest.
So I checked the price at Mouser France for the "voiced" BOM that copes with the parts provided "in my BOM" : it's around
-33 euros without VAT
-37 USD without VAT
4 u-fl socket are included in that price as well as two op amps (the ones I like a lot don't need a further buffer)
There are not the 3 legs power supply sockets and the wires with plug : it migth be less expensive elswhere and the socket + plug wire combos must be purchased together as the red and black wires can be inversed according the supplier.
there are nnot the AD1862 and the figital front end as explained previously. No regulators and no power transformer.
Could you please send me your location by PM to make a close evaluation of the shipment (registred parcel + insurance) on line ? I try to do that that week-end.
Thanks.
