A crazy idea? Rebuilding PS computer for music server

I recently bought a Mac mini for music server

The power supply for the Mac mini is probably s switching mode power supply.

As I know that well designed power supply for dac and transport gives great results (high speed soft recovery diodes, fast regulators etc )

I was asking myself if a good designed power supply as used in audio high end gear could be great for supplying computers or external hard drives. Is it a crazy idea or a great one ?

Do someone tried that ?

Results ?

Problem is, the Mac Mini itself has various other switching supplies inside it for generating CPU core voltage, DRAM voltage, and who knows what else. Hard drives and fans, and even the software running on the CPU will move its power consumption around.

You can build a great quality AC/DC supply, but the Mac Mini itself will make a mess of what it puts out.

Some go as far as using after-market power cords.

That's not nuts at it may seem: some power cords FILTER, and the the output of the computer psu does pollute the rest of the equipment, if is not connected to a separate line.

I use a dedicated network filter. cheaper and better than an aftermarket power cord 🙂
