hey i got this ballast from a wooden street light. it has no cap or ignitor. all it has is the ballast and the bulb socket. so will this still work. and does anyone know if it is possible to use a hatel halide in it. i think it was either 150w or 175w
ballast?
Looks like a simple transformer to me, not a ballast. Maybe they were running a 120 VAC bulb from a 440 VAC street lighting circuit. Did it come with a bulb that has a filament?
You could try connecting one coil to some low voltage AC power supply (like 12 volts) and then measure the output of the other coil. I would not advise connecting it to 120 VAC before you figure out what it is!

lol hilbilly. nah i was at school and i saw it just sitting there on the ground and i ask the mainteiance guy if he could take it out. he ssaid ok. there was another one for the big metal poles but he wouldnt give that to me since it was 277 volts
well there are ballasts available without cap or igniter
i am using one infact that's the only kind available around here.
but the damn thingh is very very heavy. i am also gettin some side effects as posted in another thread i would stick toan electronic.( we get 240v supply)
