well off topic and prob. in the wrong forum, PE offers a -$33.60 discount per pair (2), when ordering two pair's (4), + free shipping. anyone around philadelphia wanna go in on a order? if you're not in driving distance to 19118 it's not worth it. my feeling on this driver is that i can take it or leave it.

scott, i understand your point and know it wasn't directed to me but you asked so here goes. me, i try not to be too one sided however my appreciation of Alnico developed years ago thanks to tas editor peter breuninger bringing the late harvey"gizmo"rosenberg, herbert reichert and many other big and bigger names to philadelphia. herb was the first to explain the virtues of alnico to me without trying to sell me on or anything (audio note didn't offer alnico). in following years gizmo presented a classic large alnico driver well alón speakers carl marchisotto bought along a new alnico midrange three way. this exposure left a good impression on me as did the old nos vs. newly produced we300b's in a special amp built by nori komuro for a b comparsion.
and yes, they were the days my friend.

Quite. My point is merely that selecting a driver purely on the basis of the magnet material employed & ignoring everything else is not a particularly wise strategy.

Take the Audio Nirvana drivers for e.g. The AlNiCo motor 8in unit is clearly intended for rather different use to the ferrite motor units. So buying it just because it's got a fancy motor material isn't going to get you very far if it's not suitable for the intended application.

So to choose application/design fore a certain driver or to choose driver fore a certain application/design is different as well :spin:

But Im with you Scott

Anyway, what does neo have to do with alnico, other than possible field strength ?
And if thats what you go fore, you will get a low Qts driver completely empty of any bit of bass
It will sound like midrange driver

Funny, many pro drivers with advanced neos, are actually priced the same or even cheaper than their ceramic fellow
But ofcourse a pretty advanced ceramic design too, or more
Neo design may actually be much simpler
