I know the data sheet shows the 717a plate volts at 120 volts..\
Is that Max, or can it be run higher without hurting it?
thanks,

717a plate volts
hi Tweeker..thanks for your response... i just completed a 717a/45 amp and i am surprised at how good it sounds.... really has good detail, dimension and depth and it really fleshes out the sound....i have built upwards of 200 set amps to date, most of which have all used triode inputs, drivers and outputs, but lately i discoverd how good the pentode driver sounds with a 6sj7/px-25 amp i built and now this 717a/45 is a winner too..
but i find a lot of variation in the 717a plate volts between the various 717a's in the same socket.. as much as around 50 volts.. but out of the six 717a's that i have, i found a pr that run at about 111v and 116v... and i was wondering if the 120 volt spec in the data sheet is a hard and fast max for the 717a..
is the foil hat tied to pin one? and what is the benefit of grounding the foil hat?
thanks

foil hats
<<Be sure your foil hat has a good low impedance ground.>>
lol ok i get your drift lol...
however since 717a's are notoriously microphonic <at least several of mine are>.. and the metal base is common with pin one, i was thinking maybe i should ground pin one.. didn't try it yet...

It helps block the CIA mind control lasers being beamed from spy satellites.
Anyway, here's the datasheet It gives a 180V max plate voltage.

Hey Stuart, 😀
You've got this one. It really made me ROTFL, like the word says.
