Hello, does anyone have experiance with the triode tube 6AS7 matched with EF86?
How does it sound?
4 Watts will surely drive my Beyma 15XA38Nds...
I dont hear that loud 🙂
And compared with the 2A3...?

I recently heard (to my horror) that the lifespan of a 6AS7 is rated at only 500 hours...
Better choose the 2A3 I guess.

6as7....6sa7?
in japan 6as7 amps

The amplifier that used this 6AS7G denied the common sense that the amplifier of 300B was said as the highest sound in public.
This amplifier becomes the sound that does not make the excessive sound other than the signal and more approached the original sound furthermore.
The sound of the amplifier of 300B and 6AS7G that were made by the base of the same condition were compared.
As a result the amplifier of 6AS7G was the sound close to the original sound more. Because, the amplifier of 6AS7G is that there is little excessive sound except the music sound.

The 6SA7 is a pentagrid converter. Why not use a 6DQ6 wired in triode? It's virtually the same as a 2A3 with indirectly heated cathode!
6dq6 is good tube for transmitter.2a3 is famous dht triode with great sound.6sa7 use for mixer and osc in radio !!!
...... 6SA7 matched with EF86...means se amp by 6sa7 in output and ef86 mached and drive this 6sa7.but 6sa7 can not do this and 6as7 is correct .
in tube forum correct number for valves is important point .

The 6DQ6 is basically electrically equal to a 2A3 when wired in triode... I run them at 300V, 56ma bias. They make about 30W into a 3k RLa-a...
i have plan for 6as7 p-p amp .i know 6as7 is original triode so it is not pentode in triode mode ,
2:30 -- I don't think he knows what the hell he's doing. What he calls an "output transformer" is nothing of the sort. The markings: "400~" and "Alt 10,000 ft max" show that that is an aviation PTX. It wasn't designed to operate at any frequency other than 400Hz (the standard AC mains for aircraft). Not gonna have any low end.
If he intends to use triodes like the 6AS7, why is he showing a PTX that runs at over 1.0KV? 😱
thanks for your good circuit but:
-30 watt for p-p of 6080 ?one channel?or 2 channel ?
-need output chock information and local feedback tab .
-out put tubes ?parallel for current? need text for this .
🙂🙂

hifisucks,
How an amplifier sounds with a 6AS7 versus a 300B can have much to do with the design topology, input tube, and the rest of the parts.
A single 6AS7 SE can do stereo; it takes two 300B in SE to do stereo.
Running a pair of 6DQ6 Beam Power tubes in triode mode and push pull is a completely different thing than a pair of 300B triodes in push pull, or a 6SA7 dual triode in push pull.
Each tube type will require its own topology and surrounding parts to get the best out of it.
6AS7 mu = 2 and has Very Low rp 200 Ohms
300B mu = 3.85 and has Low rp 700 Ohms
6DQ6 triode wired has Higher mu, and Higher rp.
Each will have its own driver stage requirements, output transformer requirements, power supply voltage and current requirements to make them work properly.
Plan on using DC for the 300B filaments.
Just pick your tubes and topology, plan and build carefully, and you should get some good sounds.

I didn't watch the video, I just thought the typo in the tube type was a funny coincidence to the OP's original title. 🙂 He is actually pretty knowledgeable, IIRC, a retired RF engineer from one of the national research labs.2:30 -- I don't think he knows what the hell he's doing. digital oscope and low distortion audio generator... access to right data abut tubes ..good caps ...and other parts .nice opt 🙂.......yes good topology ...and hearing music with standard speaker and skills audiofile friends ........at last member of diyaudio ......=

i have experience with el90 .....different sounds from different brands.

Hi, do you have plate curves for triode strapped 6DQ6 ?
Here is the article covering the PP 6080 amp.thanks for your good circuit but:
