I have some beautiful old Sony cabinets I would like to repurpose.
having read xrks thread with the Aurum Cantus and the FR58EX......I thought there may be some mileage in the combo I mention.....and I know others have noted the Faitals fairly flat response. Coupled with the flat FR of the small Fountek....I'd hoped to build a nice speaker with a simple 1st order passive XO.
The drivers will be approx 4" centre apart . Plan to run the FR58 in a small 'dagger ' within the box.
Does this sound like a good starting point.?
I have built 2 pairs of speakers now into existing boxes with 3" FR and feel it's time to try something more. I'm not sure if this is more for the FR section or here.....sorry.

A commendable idea to repurpose the cabinets. I would advise to use a dome tweeter like DT99 or DT300 from Monacor that Blue Aran offers at acceptable prices. Wide band units may work out for some and for the others, their hf off-axis response leaves much room for improvement. If you can hear hf very well, you should be much better off with a dome tweeter. There is a nice Monacor wg300 waveguide also.
My listening spot is fairly 'set' within about a foot or so on the settee.
Would this mean I may be ok with the FR instead of the tweeter?
