Hi all,

I have a distributor who offers me a various models of 5687 tubes, in 5687, 5687WA, 5687WB, 5687S; in General Electric, Sylvania, ITT, EGC etc.
Prices are pretty similar, about €12 each.

What would be the best choise in a preamp (SRPP Totem pole, TubeCad design)?

Thanks for help, guys.
Dan

PS: all tubes are NOS

For me Tung-Sol was microphonic and unusable. I tried a bunch of them with zero luck and they are still sitting on my bench. I settled with Phillips black plate 5687 tubes and found them very good sounding without the microphonic fault of the Tung-Sol.

interesting...
I tried in my preamp two types of Raytheon, philips and at least 3 types of tungsols (JTL, WA, xx?). Only Raytheons , probably CK version, were microphonic. Anyway, 5687 is a computer tube and there is a statement in a datasheet saying, that it is not intended to use this tube in microphonic sensitive circuits /like audio/.

Finally I got two Tung Sol, and two JAN 5687WB, NOS, will try them tonight.
The two actual ones in my preamp are (almost) burnt out, the difference should be dramatic I guess. 😱 😡

Will be interesting to know which one sounds better.

Computer tube? For me it's one of the best sounding tube I've tried. Any suggestion for something better? (low output impedance).

Will let you guys know what the results are.

Thanks,
Dan
